The Psychology Council (PC) is an independent quality and standards organisation, appointed as the external accreditation entity for the psychology profession in Ghana under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857). PC develops and reviews accreditation standards for psychology programmes of study in Ghana, working with the National Accreditation Board and education providers to determine whether programmes meet the required education standards.
GPC accredits all applied psychology programmes of study in the country and licenses every individual permitted to practice psychology in Ghana.
To protect the Ghanaian public by ensuring that all persons who practice psychology, counselling and applied psychology in Ghana are competently trained, ethically grounded and continuously developed.
A Ghana in which every citizen has access to safe, ethical and internationally benchmarked psychological care.
The Psychology Council is established under Part 5 of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857). All persons trained in psychology and applied psychology must be registered with the Council in order to practice legally in Ghana.
As Acting Registrar of the Psychology Council, Anna Plange leads the Council's regulatory, accreditation and administrative functions — ensuring that the practice of psychology in Ghana is held to rigorous, internationally benchmarked standards.
Under her stewardship, the Council continues to strengthen its licensure framework, expand programme accreditation and modernise its engagement with practitioners, institutions and the public.
