The internship is a structured period of supervised practice undertaken by newly qualified psychologists and counsellors before full licensure. It ensures that practitioners entering the profession have demonstrated competence in real-world clinical, organisational or community settings.
Internships may be undertaken at Council-approved hospitals, mental health units, university counselling centres, NGOs and private practices that meet the supervision and infrastructure requirements.
All interns must apply for Provisional Registration with the Council before commencing their internship. Practicing without provisional registration is a breach of Act 857.
