Leadership & Governance

The people who steward psychology regulation in Ghana.

The Governing Board sets the policy direction of the Psychology Council and oversees how it carries out its mandate under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).

Its members bring experience from clinical psychology, medicine, counselling, ministry, law, pharmacy and public administration, so that every decision on education, licensing and professional conduct serves the safety of the Ghanaian public.

Dr. Ama Kyerewaa Edwin chairs the Governing Board of the Psychology Council, leading the Board in setting the Council's strategic direction and in holding the regulation of psychology in Ghana to standards the public can trust.

Dr. Erica Danfrekua Dickson

Board Member · MBChB, PhD

Dr. Erica Danfrekua Dickson is a Physician Consultant Clinical Psychologist and the first Director of Mental Health for the Ghana Armed Forces Health Services (GAFHS). She is the immediate past head of the Therapy and Wellness Department of the Medical Division at the 37 Military Hospital, and served as President of the Ghana Psychological Association from 2018 to 2020.

Her work centres on the psychosocial care of vulnerable groups, multidisciplinary healthcare and holistic biological and psychosocial care for individuals and communities. Her interests include noncommunicable diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma, domestic abuse and adolescent mental health.

Outside her professional life, she enjoys reading, music and dancing.

Rev. Prof. Samuel Oheneba-Dornyo

Rev. Prof. Samuel Oheneba-Dornyo is a pastor, counsellor and academic leader with over four decades of experience in ministry, counselling and education.

He is the Founder of the Oheneba-Dornyo University College of Counselling and Psychology (ODUCCP), Ghana's pioneering institution dedicated to training professional faith-based counsellors. He is also the Founding President of the Ghana Academy of Christian Counsellors (GACC) and Managing Consultant at the Professional Christian Counselling Clinic.

A prolific author and committed mentor, he brings together biblical truth and practical psychological insight, equipping others to serve with wisdom, care and competence.

Rev. Dr. Albert Okpoti Botchway

Board Member · PhD, Barrister

Rev. Dr. Albert Okpoti Botchway brings to the Board a distinguished career spanning law, business, governance and international conflict management. A barrister by training and a seasoned entrepreneur, he has held senior leadership roles across healthcare, aviation, insurance and tourism.

He has served as Acting Chief Executive of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Board Chairman of Ghana International Airlines, and as a board member of several national institutions, including the Students Loan Trust Fund and the Center for Urban Transportation. As Managing Director of OGR Travel and Tours and later Diplomatic Escort Travel and Tours, he helped pioneer Ghana's modern tourism industry.

He holds a PhD in International Conflict Management from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, reflecting a lasting commitment to leadership and peacebuilding.
